PALEO – What is it?

Everyone has heard of “eating Paleo” these days – but what exactly is it?

Here are some basics to understanding what Paleo is all about.

Paleo is an effort to eat the way we used to, back when cavemen were alive. It is a smart nutritional approach to staying lean, strong & energetic. The basic principle is if you can’t hunt or gather it, then you shouldn’t eat. So it includes lots of meat, fish, nuts, leafy greens, veggies and seeds. The typical diet in society today consists of highly refined food, trans fat and sugar which studies have proven leads to degenerative diseases such as obesity, cancer, diabetes, heart disease, Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, depression & infertility. So what better way to combat these risks with giving Paleo a try!

Diet

When people see the word diet, it can conjure many different meanings & feelings. We are cluttered with information daily via TV, social media and society about what we should & shouldn’t eating, so it’s no wonder that it’s confusing and many people feel lost & frustrated when trying to find a good place to start. Common problems people face is restricting food groups, which in turns restricts calories. Paleo doesn’t include counting calories, because in all honesty – who has time for that?! Instead it will help you find the balance of eating until you’re not hungry whilst helping you lose weight, build muscle and feel great!

In a nutshell here is a list of what you can eat and what to avoid when starting a Paleo diet:

EAT

  • Meats (Organic where possible)
  • Vegetables
  • Fruits
  • Seafood
  • Nuts & Seeds
  • Healthy Fats & Oils

AVOID

  • Dairy
  • Grains
  • Processed foods & sugars
  • Legumes
  • Starches
  • Alcohol

Benefits

Studies have proven a Paleo diet has the following benefits:

  • Stable blood sugar
  • Anti-inflammatory
  • Clean skin, better teeth
  • Burn off stored fat
  • Reduced allergies
  • Improved Sleep patterns
  • Balanced energy throughout the day
  • More efficient workouts

Who doesn’t want to not only feel better but look better in the process? If you’re feeling lost with nutrition, low energy levels and just generally sluggish, then give Paleo a go!
